CHALK sits high on the Rushall Organics Estate, and the first thing you notice when you arrive is the sky. Big, open, and endlessly changing, it’s the kind of place where the landscape immediately becomes part of the celebration. From a floral designer’s point of view, that connection to the outdoors is what makes Chalk Barn Wiltshire such a unique place to work.
It’s a contemporary barn with clean lines, floor-to-ceiling windows and far-reaching views across rolling countryside. Modern, but never cold. Minimal, but never stark. It gives couples an understated blank canvas to build on – and lets the gorgeous view do a lot of the talking.
While I don’t work here as often as I’d like (I’d happily be there every week), it’s a venue I genuinely love. And because it’s so local to me, I’m able to offer reduced minimum spends for Chalk weddings: £1,500 mid-week and £2,000 at weekends, which makes it a brilliant option for couples wanting bespoke, design-led florals without overstretching their budget.

The Look and Feel of a Chalk Barn Wedding
Here, there’s space to breathe and move easily between indoors and out. It’s especially well-suited to couples who want their day to feel relaxed rather than overly formal, with plenty of room for guests to spread out and mingle.
Inside, the aesthetic is modern and minimal, designed to showcase the surrounding countryside rather than compete with it or block it out. Golden-hour light floods the barn, and as the sun drops, the whole space softens into something incredibly atmospheric. It’s simple in the best way possible, which gives flowers, candles and table details the freedom to really shine.
Ceremony Spaces That Lend Themselves Beautifully to Flowers
One of my favourite things about Chalk Barn Rushall is how flexible the ceremony options are. Couples can marry inside the light-filled barn with those panoramic views behind them, or outside beneath the arbour on the ceremony lawn, with uninterrupted countryside as the backdrop.
The arbour itself is a gorgeous floral focal point. Its structure allows us to create designs that grow up and around it, rather than just sitting in front – which always feels more natural and immersive. Outdoors, I love designing florals that respond to the rugged landscape, but when the weather turns a little spicy (as Wiltshire sometimes likes to do), the barn becomes even more integral. On windier days, we often shift the visual emphasis inside, using flowers and candlelight to build a sense of warmth and shelter within the open structure of the space.

Reception Styling and Tablescaping at Chalk
For receptions, Chalk works beautifully for both refined seated wedding breakfasts and more relaxed, festival-style celebrations that spill out onto the lawn. The transition from ceremony to drinks to dining to dancing feels very natural here, and later on, the fire pit becomes a gorgeous gathering point as the evening settles in.
One of my favourite installations here was a full outdoor wedding-breakfast tablescape. We used a mix of bowls and bud vases layered down long tables, paired with lots of colourful candles to create a sense of magic and abundance without overloading the space – it was very “Chalk”.
I also love that the barn already has ceiling rigging in place, which many couples don’t realise. It means we can easily create overhead installations if that’s part of the vision; something that can completely change the scale and atmosphere of the room.

Seasonal Flowers, Local Growing, and Sustainable Choices
Because Chalk sits on an organic estate where seasonality and sustainability are already part of daily life, it naturally aligns with the way I like to work. I love using flowers grown locally here, including from one of my growers who is just fifteen minutes away. That connection between venue, landscape and ingredients always feels especially meaningful.
From a practical design point of view, Chalk is another venue where re-use is key. Because couples marry and celebrate on-site, ceremony flowers can often be moved and reworked for the reception, helping stretch budgets while keeping the design cohesive across the day.

Behind the Scenes at Chalk Barn, Wiltshire
One of the real joys of working at Chalk is how accessible and collaborative the whole setup process feels. Because venue hire includes the night before, couples, family, friends and suppliers are all on site setting up together. There’s a real sense of anticipation in the air, and I love being part of those pre-wedding moments as everything starts to come together. It also means I can be very hands-on with a smaller team. Being so local allows me to personally oversee far more of the process, which I always enjoy.
And as for the Chalk team – Lincoln, Heather, Tracy and everyone involved – they are genuinely wonderful. They’re warm, enthusiastic and deeply invested in each couple’s celebration. That excitement carries through to suppliers, too, which makes every wedding here feel truly collaborative.
If you’re planning a Chalk Barn wedding and you’re looking for a florist who knows the venue well, understands how it moves with the seasons and will still approach your brief with fresh eyes each time, I’d love to dream something up with you.
